Noëlle Cuppens
Noëlle Cuppens (Asten 1964) is a visual artist and teacher at the Maastricht Academy of Art. She studied at the KABK in Den Bosch and the Jan van Eyck Academy in Maastricht.
She moved to Rotterdam in 1992, Amsterdam in 2008 and has lived and worked in Houthem St-Gerlach since 2023.
In addition to her art practice, she has worked for many years as an image teacher at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam and since 2021 at the Maastricht Art Academy. She has done several periods of work in Vlaardingen, Canada, Japan and Newfoundland.
Space and perception are central to her photographs of spatial staging. They are temporary situations that seem constantly in motion, like thoughts that are constantly overtaken by new ones. Each photograph is a snapshot, a balance between recognition and abstraction, leaving room for her own interpretation.
