Ineke Philips
Ineke Philips is a contemporary visual artist born and raised in Maastricht.
In recent years, her work has been characterized by the use of packaging materials, resulting in spatial objects made of cardboard.
She draws inspiration from everyday objects in the form of packaging and transforms them into independent forms that remain recognizable on the one hand, but are placed “in the spotlight” on the other. In this way, she wants to encourage viewers to look at existing objects with different
eyes and evoke a powerful image. Color is essential. The search for the right and appropriate color for an object plays an important role in her work. The style is minimalist with room for imperfections.
Throughout her life, Ineke has regularly painted alongside her job in education, under the guidance of Erik J. de Jong and Karin Smits. She also took a course in “contemporary art history” with the former.
In her work as a kindergarten teacher, she enjoyed stimulating and observing the creative development of preschoolers.
After her retirement, she started working more structurally and her work gained momentum.
She entered into a new relationship, moved into a new house, and acquired a new studio!
She has participated in various group exhibitions in Maastricht.
Ineke lives and works in Maastricht.
