Eleni Kamma
My viewpoint continually moves between the positions of artist and researcher, my practice being situated between a monologue and a dialogue. I am working along a Moebius strip schema, that keeps shifting or circulating from me as individual artist (through drawings and objects), to dialectic collaborations (the journal Paroikeo, walking and talking activities, performative events) and writing about it. I search for media and forms that help me overcome a hesitation of speaking in the first person within a national-cultural framework. Since 2009, I have been living/working in two cities,
Maastricht and Brussels, and holding two nationalities, Greek and Cypriot. Due to my father’s refugee status in Greece and to the occupation of the northern part of Cyprus where my family originates, I constantly experience the feeling of ‘not properly belonging’ from an early age. This has led me to consider myself as a pároikos, “(from pará, ‘close beside’ and oíkos, ‘house’)— someone living close to others as a temporary dweller,” leaving me with questions of raising one’s voice – in relation to one’s own identity – and how and who to address.

Selection 30 X 30 X 30
This summer I created three limited edition prints to help raise funds for my upcoming publication Pink Days and Blue Νights (The Dancers). It is an artist book that takes as a point of departure a dialogic collaborative work between myself, visual artist Eleni Kamma, and my uncle Christos Vogiatzis, who passed away in the autumn of 2023. The publication explores themes of loss,
memory and time, opening up questions around experiencing vulnerability and the transformative processes that take place when we make the private public. The publication is supported by Jaap Harten Fonds, het Cultuurfonds and Provincie Limburg. It will be available in October 2025.
For 30 X 30 X 30 I proposed to show the three limited edition prints.
