Christiane Steffens
Christiane Steffens is an artist living and working in Maastricht. She graduated from the AKBM, first in Visual Arts and later in Art and Design Education. Her work can be characterised as monumental and abstract, while retaining clearly recognisable figurative elements. Thematically, her practice moves between historically inspired artistic projects and formal abstract research. Within her art-historical work, she explores the lives of women from Maastricht. Previous projects focused on Elisabeth Strouven, exhibited at Theater aan het Vrijthof in Maastricht in 2021, and Aldegonda Hoeberechts, exhibited at Bureau Europa in 2024. She is currently researching Anna Maria Miët and is in conversation with the Historisch Centrum Limburg about a possible exhibition. Last year, her formal abstract research has focused on the inner forms of capital letters entering into a visual dialogue with one another. Her attention has since shifted towards transforming forms, with rhythm and patterns taking centre stage.
